Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions Foundation

Q: Who may receive hospice care?

A: Hospice care is specifically for people with a life limiting illness who meet the following Hospice Guidelines:

  • Desire for palliative care at a time when aggressive, curative treatment may have stopped, been refused, or has been deemed inappropriate for the stage of the client's illness.

  • The client's physician has said that this client's prognosis is life limiting and the physician agrees to work with our Hospice Team in order to give the client the best possible care.

  • Client is aware of the nature of their illness.

Q: How much does Hospice care cost?

A: Hospice can be reimbursed by Medicare/Medicaid, Champus, VA, and most private health insurance plans. However, service is provided to those who meet admission guidelines regardless of their ability to pay.

Q: Can I still use my own physician?

A: Yes, you continue to use your own physician. Your physician's care plan will be implemented by a Hospice nurse, social worker, a chaplain, home care aides and trained volunteers. If you do not have a local physician, the Hospice medical director is available to assist with your care.

Q: What can Hospice volunteers do for me?

A: Hospice trained volunteers provide periodic relief for the primary caregiver, socialization for the patient, and often just listen.

Q: How often do Hospice staff visit?

A: Hospice care is tailored to individual needs. Hospice personnel are on call 24 hours a day.

Q: Who should I contact to begin Hospice care?

A: Ask your physician to call Sacred Journey Hospice, or contact us directly at 678-583-0717. We will discuss admission procedures with you.
