About our Volunteers

Volunteers add a special dimension to the care and comfort provided to our patients and families. These specially trained, sensitive, caring individuals are often called the heart of Hospice, exemplifying the spirit and mission of Sacred Journey Hospice.

Many volunteers join our team because they have personally experienced hospice services. They have a deep awareness of the increased intimacy, meaning and dignity in the patient's life at home, surrounded by loved ones. They volunteer their services with a deep commitment to Sacred Journey Hospice.

Volunteer Training

The hospice training is conducted by professionals and volunteers and is open to anyone who wants to learn about hospice and is interested in volunteering. Topics include the history and philosophy of hospice, concepts of death and dying, care and comfort measures, understanding diseases and conditions, spirituality, communication skills and bereavement issues. Certified volunteers are eligible to be assigned to a hospice patient/family, if they wish. There is no cost for this training.
